Foster Parenting is not for everyone.  Maybe you are not a  time in your life where you feel you are able to foster a child - but you would still like to help.  Listed below are just a few of the ways you can make a positive difference in the lives of foster children.

DONATE CARE BAGS FOR FOSTER CHILDREN

Prepare Foster Care Bags for children in foster care.  Suggestions are as follows:

Personal Needs Care Bag - Pack a bag of personal care items for children coming into care.  Children feel a little more comfortable when they are placed in a home when they can take a few items they can call their own with them.   Fill a tote with personal care items:  hair brushes, combs, face wash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shaving creams and razors, make-up, cosmetic bags, body sprays, soap, etc.

School Supply Care Bag - Pack a book bag or tote with paper, pens, notebooks, paper clips, glue & glue sticks, crayons, pencils, magic markers, composition books, etc.

Entertainment Care Bag - Pack a bag with board games, deck of cards, coloring books, art supplies, CD's, DVD's, books, movie passes, restaurant gift cards, etc..

Prom Care Bag - Foster teens who desire to attend their school prom are in need of donations of gift certificates for hair & makeup, tuxedo rentals, restaurant gift cards, donations of good used prom dresses and accessories, costume jewelry.

Pajama Project - Host a pajama party and ask each participant to bring in a new pair of jammies to be donated to Foster Care of Spartanburg for the children in care.  All sizes are needed from infant to teens.

DONATE TO THE FOSTER FAMILY CLOTHING CLOSET

Many times children come into foster care with literally only the clothes on their back.  For this reason we have a clothing closet located in our office to assist our foster families with the immediate needs of the children placed in their home.  We are in need of the following items for our Closet:

New or good, used clothing items, accessories and shoes.  All sizes are needed from infant to teenagers.

Packages of new underwear and socks - all sizes.

Diapers, baby lotion, wipes, bottles, bibs, baby blankets, etc.

Baby equipment in new or good condition - cribs, walkers, highchairs, strollers, car seats, etc.

Personal care items - hair brushes, toothbrushes, hair care products, deodorant, etc.

Travel bags or suitcases

Formal wear and accessories for teens to attend their prom

Host a Foster "Baby Shower" and ask guests to bring gifts for foster babies and toddlers that will be donated to our clothing closet.

We will provide you with a tax receipt for your records.  Please contact Libby Warlick at 596-3001 ext. 3053 or by email at Elizabeth.Warlick@dss.sc.gov if you or your group would like to assist us with donations.  We can make arrangements to pick up donations if you so choose.

THANK YOU FOR CARING, THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
