Health Inspections

Prior to being licensed all potential foster homes must have a health and fire inspection of your home.   You will be scheduled an appointment with health and fire inspectors and let you know of the date and time they will be at your home.  Listed below are items each inspector will be looking at:

HEALTH INSPECTIONS

1)  Check mini blinds for lead. Make sure the window sills are dust free and clean.

2)  Check the kitchen and bathroom for child proof locks on cabinets where chemicals and disinfectants

are stored.  All chemicals and disinfectants should be stored in a high place or shelf out of a child’s reach or

in a locked storage area with child proof locks.

3)  Check shot records and ensure all animals in the home have tags.

4)  Check the temperature of the water heater . Temperature must be 120 degrees or less for safety.

5)  Check the refrigerator temperature- must be 45 degrees or less.

6)  Check to ensure all  unused electrical outlets plugged with child safety plugs.

7)   Will check well water if you are not on city water.

* Please call the above health inspector to set up your health inspection.  Their phone number is (864) 282-4149. Kimberly Thompson will let you know when to call to schedule your health inspection.

IF YOUR HOME WAS BUILT IN 1978 OR EARLIER A LEAD ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED. THE HEALTH INSPECTOR WILL DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT A LEAD ASSESSMENT IS NEEDED AND WILL REQUEST IT IF NECESSARY.
