SPONSOR A CHILD FOR CHRISTMAS

Foster Care of Spartanburg is looking for individuals, families, groups, and companies to sponsor the 300 plus children in foster care in Spartanburg County.  We need partners throughout the community willing to help us to ensure each child in foster care has gifts for the holiday season.  Wish lists have been completed by each child in care listing the items they wish for most this holiday season, including needed clothing sizes.   

HOW CAN YOU HELP SPREAD THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS?

Call us at 596-3001, ext. 2339 and talk with us about the age and sex of a child you wish to sponsor.  Please keep in mind we always have a special need for sponsorship for the older children in care ages 12 and up. We will match your request for a child as closely as we can and mail you the child's wish list.  Once you have completed shopping for your sponsored child, you may deliver your new, unwrapped gifts to our office or call the number above to make arrangements for pickup.  

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Do I have to purchase everything on a child's wish list? 

A:  No.  Most of our children turn in reasonable wish lists.  Sometimes they do ask for more expensive items such as electronics or game systems.  We ask you to purchase the items on the list you feel most comfortable in purchasing. 

Q:  Why do you want the gifts unwrapped?

A:  Before sending the gifts to the home we check the items for correct sizes, safety, etc.  Gift bags are perfect for the gifts or if you wish you may include rolls of gift wrapping paper for the gifts. 

Q:  Can I purchase toys and donate them or do I need to ask for a child's wish list?

A:  We always need items for children who come into care at the last minute so generic gifts are always appreciated. 

Q:  Can I make a monetary donation?

A:  Yes!  Monetary donations are accepted year around and are most needed during the Christmas season to help fill the wish lists of children who did not get sponsored, or to sponsor children who come in to care closer to Christmas who have not had the opportunity to complete a wish list. 

Q:  Are my donations tax deductible?

A:  Yes.  We will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your donation.

Q:  Can I deliver the gifts to the child I sponsor?

A:  Because of confidentiality issues sponsors are not allowed to deliver the gifts to your sponsored child.  Caseworkers and other staff will ensure all gifts are delivered to your child before the Christmas holidays.  

GIFT SUGGESTIONS

Gift cards for the teenagers in care.  The most requested gift cards are from any of the following stores:

Best Buy, Academy Sports, Westgate Mall, Target, Walmart, Movie Theatres, Ross, Marshall's, Dicks Sporting Goods, gift certificates for manicures, and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Building Blocks, remote controlled cars, dolls, barbies, riding toys, wagons, MP3 players, jewelry, body sprays, etc.  Just take a stroll through the toy department and most anything you can imagine will be on some child's list this year!
